A mystery from the past is hauled from the depths of the icy Norfolk "fens"—a marshy area of eastern England—in this chilling tale of an encounter with something very sinister It's wintertime in the moody, atmospheric mists of East Anglia, and while diving into the cold, murky water of a lake, Kit and Joe find an elaborate patten—a Fen word for ice skate. Its return to the surface is not widely welcomed, and, as it emerges, the story of how the skate became detached from its owner 50 years ago leads the boys deep into a chilling mystery whose conclusion is yet to be played out. What could have been surging up through the ice that day half a century past that so frightened young Tom Townley? Why has Tom suffered constantly from nightmares and visions of beings who make no noise, but so menacingly watch? Who are they watching now—and why?
  • Reminiscences of the Civil War

    John B. Gordon

    (Independently published, July 18, 2018)
John B. Gordon, by the end of the Civil War, had become one of Robert E. Lee’s most trusted generals. At the outbreak of the war, in 1861, he enlisted as a private soldier, and was elected captain of his company. His career was perhaps as brilliant as that of any officer in the Confederate army. In rapid succession he filled every grade — that of Major, Lieutenant-Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier-General, Major-General, and, near the end, was assigned to duty as Lieutenant-General (by authority of the Secretary of War), and while he never received the commission in regular form, he commanded, at the surrender at Appomattox, one half of the Army of Northern Virginia, under Robert E. Lee. He had the extraordinary talent of getting in front of his troops and, in a few magnetic appeals, inspiring them almost to madness, and being able to lead them into the jaws of death. Brown distinguished himself in many of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, including at Seven Pines, Antietam, Gettysburg, and Spotsylvania Court House. John B. Gordon’s remarkable activities are all recorded in vivid detail in his Reminiscences of the Civil War which allows the reader to fully understand the thoughts and actions of this fascinating man. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in how one man rose from relative obscurity to become one of the most formidable leaders of the American Civil War. “The mass of intelligent readers … will find it one of the best obtainable pictures of life in the Confederate army.” The American Historical Review John B. Gordon was an attorney, a planter, general in the Confederate States Army, and politician in the postwar years. After the war, Gordon strongly opposed Reconstruction during the late 1860s. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected by the state legislature to serve as a U.S. Senator, from 1875 to 1881, and again from 1891 to 1897. He also was elected as the 53rd Governor of Georgia, serving from 1886 to 1890. Reminiscences of the Civil War was first published in 1903 and he passed away in 1904.

  • Reminiscences of the Civil War

    John B. Gordon

    (Independently published, May 31, 2019)
John Gordon (1832-1904) was one of the Confederacy's most capable generals. A native of Georgia, he went on to serve as governor of the state after the war. His memoirs are one of the most famous accounts of the Civil War, and an example of the Lost Cause view of the war.".... Unconquerable energy, undying enthusiasm — above all, unselfish love — these were the traits which had borne him through the battles of war and the battles of peace, and through years of peerless civic service...."Francis Gordon Smith

[SOME FACTS](If you don't want to read this [SOME FACTS], please skip right below and read the [ABOUT THE BOOK] section right below.)A bully exhibits the need or desire to exert or gain control over another, often weaker in nature. Bullies often use physical violence, verbal intimidation or teasing to exert their power over others. There are various types of bullies ranging from hitting, kicking, shoving, to cyber bullying on social networking websites (for older kids) to verbal bullying such as the use of name-calling, insulting, making racist comments, or harsh teasing. There are other types of bullies but these suffice to make the point that bullying is a real problem for our kids or younger brothers or sisters. And most often, it's hard to detect if your child is being bullied because they do not communicate well with their parents, they do not tell them, they keep it for themselves and fear for their lives at school. This shouldn't have to hide anything from their parents. In this book, I attempt to touch on some attributes or personalities that your child just like Jason ought to start developing so that they do not fall victims to these bullying events.Although the school teachers can play a big role in fighting back against bullies, there's no better way than an open, honest, genuine and easy communication and conversation with your child and that starts with reading them this book![ABOUT THIS BOOK]Jason is a 7 year old boy who loves to play the flute; however, he's afraid to tell his friends at school that he loves playing the flute. The other boys would say that he is a sissy for playing the flute. They would tease him, asking him why he didn’t play guitar or drums, or some other “boy” instrument. Jason faces numerous events of bullying at his school but luckily he is able to overcome those adversities and end up exposing to the world who he really is through a concert. This book will educate your kid who might be going through Jason's path, and help give them courage about expressing who they really are regardless of other people's opinions. It might also guide your kid on who to talk to in case of bullying events at their school; for instance, Jason talked to both his parents and music teacher about his bullies.
